The theme of reconciling professional, personal and family life has been gaining weight and occupying several news titles and informative articles.
At the beginning of the month, the EU released a set of rules that all member states “must apply at EU level to improve the work and family life balance of parents and carers, adopted in 2019″ and which had to be transposed into the national law of countries until today.”
In a national context, Mariana Vieira da Silva, current Minister of the Presidency, said that the directive on reconciling personal, family and professional life will be an integral and indispensable part of the implementation of the Portugal 2030 program and the Recovery and Resilience Plan .
But after all, what is work life balance and how can we measure it within a company?
The directive on reconciling work and family life aims to preserve and improve existing rights and introduce new rights for both women and men.
The proposal aims to promote a good balance between family and professional commitments and reinforce equal opportunities between women and men, both in the workplace and at home.
Here are some suggestions to adopt in your company to ensure work life balance measures for your employees:
- Implementation of a deadline for scheduling meetings;
- Provision of information on parenting (rights and duties of both parties);
- Monitoring of male and female workers, which may involve training after a period of extended leave;
- Waivers for volunteer activities;
- Protocols with education and health and well-being entities;
- Internal transport service or payment of a transport allowance to male and female workers;
- Career counseling;
- Dissemination of information on the rights and duties of workers in terms of reconciling professional, family and personal life, protection of parenthood and gender equality.
