Vodafone Portugal confirms that it was the target of a cyberattack

“Vodafone was the target of a disruption in its network, which began on the night of February 7, 2022 due to a deliberate and malicious cyberattack, with the aim of causing damage and disruption”, reveals the company in communicated.

“This situation is affecting the provision of services based on data networks, namely 4G/5G network, fixed voice, television, SMS and voice/digital answering services“, it can be read in the statement from Vodafone Portugal. The company guarantees that, “as soon as the first sign of a problem on the network was detected, it acted immediately to identify and contain the effects and restore the services” and that “it remains absolutely determined to restore the normality of services in the shortest possible time. ”, regretting “deeply the inconvenience caused to customers”.

Vodafone tries to reassure customers by saying that it has no evidence that customer data has been accessed and/or compromised, and is therefore determined to restore the normality of services, but it should happen gradually.

Despite having already recovered some of its services, Vodafone Portugal admits that it is having a little more difficulties in the process due to the “size and seriousness of the criminal act”, so it needs a “careful and prolonged recovery work”, but he is confident that this recovery will take place “progressively throughout this Tuesday“, the 8th.
